Hello 2021
Well here we are, aren’t we? Brand new year. Ahead of us stretch 365 days of pure adventure. Well, that and a lot of new reruns. I almost slept through the transition into this year though. Didn’t cause the neighbors are younger and like setting off fireworks. That’s the thing about New Years’. Always reminds me of Physics and Algebra. How you might ask? Oh please ask. You see back in the day it was customary to step outside, point your revolver sidearm to the sky and fire off some rounds. The lead from a 45 caliber would travel skyward until it finally succumbed to gravity and return promptly to earth. What does that have to do with Algebra and Physics? I am sure many of you struggled through hours of problems that went something like “If a 45 caliber 15 gram bullet leaves the barrel of a revolver with a muzzle velocity of 830 feet per second in a path perpendicular to the earth, how long will it take for the mass of the bullet to counter its velocity and begin its descent to earth. That problem followed of course with, ” What will be its velocity when it reaches earth? This exercise in scientific calculus has, of course, proven very valuable in my role as a pastor. You never had to do those? Lucky stiff! Perhaps you remember the train problems. If a train leaves Chicago traveling at 50mph, when will it arrive at its destination – Los Angeles 2100 miles later. I would write “the twelfth of never,” which they thought was a wrong answer. Then I am guessing they never took Amtrak to Los Angeles.
Well, I do like to prattle on so huh? Still, there is something about New years that reminds me of getting saved. Brand new clean slate not having had enough time to mess it up and no erasures yet. Very refreshing. May it be a year of landmark victories and courageous acts for you. Enjoy every minute of it. Nary a single opportunity remains to do good in 2020. Make use of all 365 that lay ahead of you in 2021.
